Calshot Beach
Difficulty Rating: ***  Accessibility:****  Variety of Fish:****  Parking: Pay

Calshot Beach is a shallow shingle spit that deepens off dramatically at the point. I have always rated it as a good match venue as the beach is much the same throughout its entire length with no real ‘hotspots’, thus testing the anglers' fishing skills and not the luck of the draw.

Calshot has a wide variety of fish including Sole, Bass, Mullet and Plaice and during the summer months you can get plagued by Black Bream, Wrasse and School Bass which shows that the beach is a good fish holding area. I would say the best way to fish Calshot is to use a three hook flapper rig with Ragworm as bait and try to get it out as far as possible.

As the beach is very shallow it pays to try and reach the deeper water to increase your chances of catching a wider variety of fish. The beach itself starts off with stone and shingle and then leads out to sand and is dead flat with only a few small gullies. With the nature of the sand Calshot is great for digging Lugworm and you can also dig live Sandeel in the summer.

You can almost use Calshot as a guide as to when the Plaice start to show from the beaches and I have always found that Calshot will produce fish there earlier in the season than most other local beaches.
