Trading as Bells Of Hythe Limited

Bells Of Hythe Shore Angling Club

Hello and welcome to Bells Of Hythe Shore Angling Club, the south coasts number one beach fishing club.

I would like to start by telling you a bit about BOHSAC so that you can get an idea of what we are all about.

We are operating a club to bring anglers together to fish in 12 “open” style fishing competitions throughout 2008.
Each competition will be short and sharp to keep the competitors interested throughout the match (no one really wants to fish an 8 hour match on the beach).
When we call it and “open” style match we are referring to the way in which we judge the comp and set it out in general. In fishing competitions of days gone by each angler would walk off to a part of the beach that they new well and try to catch and keep as many fish as they could and return the fish to the scales within the allotted time.
This all well and good but we have found that some of the competitors will not have had any experience on that particular beach so they would not know where to fish + at the end of each weigh-in you are of course left with a huge pile of fish that have died for no reason at all now don’t get us wrong, we do not mind taking fish home to eat like a good sizable Bass, but we do not want to kill Pout or Dogfish or Smoothounds just to weigh them in.

Our tried and tested methods have proven to work and are a very fair way to create a fishing contest based on angling talent.
We peg out each beach with numbered markers and each angler draws their number out of a bucket at the start of each match. This has proved to be a very fair way of picking where you are to fish.
BOHSAC has also adopted the measure and release style of match angling to judge in length who has caught the most fish. Each angler carries a pen, a measuring stick and a card. When an angler catches a fish he or she simply walks to the peg to their right with their fish and gets the length of the fish recorded and signed on their card, then the fish is returned alive and well to the water. This means that we do not have an unnecessary slaughter on our hands at the end of each match.
YAWN!!! Ok, that’s the boring stuff out of the way now onto the fishing!!!
We hope to fish 6 local comps and 6 comps further afield, we have already marked these possible venues so far:

  • Calshot Beach

  • Lepe Beach

  • Hythe Reclaimed Land

  • Hurst shingle Bank

  • Milford

  • Pagham

  • Southbourne

  • Burton Bradstock Chesil Beach

  • Abbotsbury Chesil Beach

We will take an entry fee of £5 per angler at the start of each comp and all the money that comes in will go back out in prize money at the end of each comp. This completes our “open” style strategy.
We do have a 100% payout format so we should not need to use a points system throughout the year of 1st = 10 points, 2nd = 8 points, 3rd=6 points and so on however Abu Garcia have kindly offered to sponsor BOHSAC for 2008 so this gives us 5 prizes to do something with.
It would be hard to decide how to get these prizes out to the anglers so we have voted to have an on-running points league to determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Best Junior and Top female. These prizes will be presented at a prize giving Christmas event at a location to be named next year.

I have enclosed a printable membership application form and a complete copy of the rules.

Our competition dates will be published closer to 2008 so stay tuned but we do have a few unofficial-non points scoring comps leading up to Christmas so come and join the fun now!

Just to recap, we want a fun crowd of young and old, male and female anglers to come along and enjoy some beach fishing with a competitive edge.
